People receiving a free glucose meter from somewhere need to understand something – aside from the good will, the people who distributed the free sample had other motivations aside from giving it up for the use of people who need it more without thinking of the profit they would have received. It is definitely a cynical way of thinking about things, but the reality is every action has motivation. Everything people do, and corporations, as artificial persons recognized by law to perform business transactions, are not exempt from this. If they do decide to give stuff away, it probably won’t have come first from the bottom of their hearts. It is a decision that is carefully measured and considered by people who know what effects that want the product to have the moment they choose to give away samples of it to the public who takes them with open arms.
